Talk about what you're doing

Telling your baby about day-to-day tasks helps them learn to speak.

Any daily routine task can be turned into an opportunity to chat to your baby. Getting dressed in the morning is a good example of this. Start by showing them an item of clothing and telling them what it is.

For example: “This is a jumper”.

If your baby is paying attention to you, that means they’re interested. You can talk to them about other details, like colours, what order you put clothes on, and what you like to wear. These small opportunities to show them things help your baby learn to speak.

Good to know

This activity gives your baby the correct words for objects and activities, which will help them to follow and understand instructions.
