Your shopping trip can be a chance to help your child learn new words and objects.
Show your child a picture of the item you need, then search for it together in the shop. Help them describe the item – what is it, what colour is it, what’s it for?
Walk with your child and give them time to look at the shelves. As them questions like “Is this it?”. Praise them when they find the item.
Talk to them about what the item is for, like “We’ll eat this cereal for breakfast”.
Good to know
Pointing out logos and signs is a form of reading. It helps children understand words have a purpose.
